"But if he's playing in his level we don't have any doubts that he's a player to stay until he decides because he's unique".

Pep Guardiola says everyone has to show they "deserve to continue" at Manchester City, including Sergio Aguero with the striker's contract running out at the end of the season.

City are expected to offer their record goalscorer fresh terms but Guardiola, who likewise is out of contract next summer, is not concerned about making it an immediate priority.

"But he was out four months and he has to start training regularly and start to score goals".

Aguero, who played a key role in setting up Raheem Sterling's crucial 23rd-minute goal, was replaced after 65 minutes of his comeback.

While it was Aguero's first match since June after the knee surgery, the Argentine found himself as the focal topic on social media with his former team-mate Micah Richards saying on Sky Sports that Aguero should "know better". "We missed him in the important moments at the end part of last season". "Now, it is good news for us today that he is back", he pointed out.

Though Aguero returned, there were fresh problems for City against Arsenal with Kevin De Bruyne, Aymeric Laporte and Benjamin Mendy added to the list of absentees.

With this win, City moved to the ninth place in the Premier League 2020-21 standings with seven points from nine matches.

The Argentine has scored 254 goals for City and been a major part of four Premier League title triumphs, including his famous last-gasp victor in 2012. All the teams made great signings and strengthened their squads.

"The injury he has is in the quadricep in the front of his leg and I think we will have to be calm and cautious", he said.
