The result left Villa second on 12 points with a game in hand over leaders Everton who have 13.

Barkley's 25-yard strike prevented the match from becoming the Premier League's first 0-0 draw of the season. "It needed a little bit of quality to win the game and Ross certainly showed that at the end".

Barkley celebrated by running to the bench and hugging Villa's club doctor Ricky Shamji and Smith explained: "The doc has looked after him the last week".

Ross Barkley netted a dramatic stoppage-time victor to ensure that Dean Smith's men remain the only side in England with a 100% record.

This was after they narrowly avoided relegation from the top flight last season. It's important we keep our feet firmly on the ground and stay humble.

The boss revealed Barkley had been "touch and go" to start at the King Power Stadium after struggling for most of last week with a knee problem.

"He only trained on Saturday but he has done a lot of work with the doc so he's nursed him through 90-plus minutes and a victor. I've certainly thanked the doc as well".

Fofana replaced first choice centre-back Caglar Soyuncu in Rodgers' starting-eleven with the Turk sidelined after sustaining a groin injury while on worldwide duty.

"This was a big win today, I know they had some players missing but if you are off your game at any stage in the Premier League you can get a bloody nose very quickly".

"Jamie will probably miss Thursday [vs Zorya]", Rodgers said, per Football London.

"This isn't serious so we're hopeful he'll be ready for the next league game".

"We're always looking to get in behind defenders or pull it back, because we don't usually have that same presence, even though Jamie is really good in the air".

Trezeguet's remarkable efforts during the match also appeared by cutting the ball four times, which is also the second best number among the players of the two teams, behind Cash, who cut the ball six times, and also dispersed the ball three times.

"You are disappointed to lose that because if you can't win it you don't want to lose and to lose it in that way was disappointing".
