It continues a remarkable fall from grace for the former Germany global who remains the highest-paid player in the club's history on £350,000-a-week, his extraordinary wages providing a huge stumbling block in moving the player on this summer.

Speculation continues to go on that Ozil will also fail to make the Premier League squad, and whilst also failing to make two Carabao Cup squads, could we have seen the last of the German in an Arsenal shirt already?

Arteta has included 24 players in his squad but can not include another non-home-grown player in the list.

With that in mind, it might not seem all that surprising if the 31-year-old playmaker is frozen out.

Arsenal are willing to pay the €50m buyout clause for Atlético Madrid midfielder Thomas Partey, although the Spanish side say they are not aware of interest. "We have been watching Thomas for a while, so we're now delighted to add such a high quality player to our squad", said Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta.

Jerry Quy, who has filled the role for 27 years alongside a series of other jobs around the club, lost his job as part of Arsenal's recent Covid-19-related cost-cutting drive.

"Technically he's got everything".

Ozil was one of three players to decline the offer amid concerns about a lack of detail over how the money would be used and whether the move would guarantee no future redundancies.

"He speaks ideal English". Not to mention, the Ghanaian worldwide also brings in loads of experience at the highest level of football, having made nearly 200 competitive appearances for Atletico.

He said: 'We needed to manage the number of foreign players in the squad because we are only allowed to have 17 on our list.

"We're very impressed with his attitude and his approach to the game".

"This is where we are at the moment".
