That detail was not confirmed by NBC News.

As Business Insider previously reported, there are multiple red flags concerning the supposed leaked emails and The New York Post reports, including whether the leaked emails are legitimate, how they were obtained, and who obtained them.

The daughter of former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani has publicly criticized her father and revealed in a scorching personal essay that she is voting for Joe Biden.

Citing conversations with four former officials familiar with the matter, the Post said that USA intelligence agencies warned the White House that Giuliani "was the target of an influence operation by Russian intelligence" in which Trump was the intended recipient of the misinformation.

"The chance that Derkach is a Russian spy is no better than 50/50", Giuliani said, referring to his associate, the Ukrainian government official Andrii Derkach whom the US Treasury Department in September designated for sanctions over his "attempting to influence the US electoral process."

Giuliani has traveled overseas looking for dirt on the Bidens, developing relationships with shadowy figures, including a Ukrainian lawmaker who US officials have described as a Russian agent and part of a broader Russian effort to denigrate the Democratic presidential nominee. The FBI is now investigating is the story is being fed to Giuliani by the Russians.

"Do what you want to do, but your friend Rudy has been worked by Russian assets in Ukraine", the source said to the Post of O'Brien's message.

John Uliot, a spokesman for the National Security Council, said in a statement that "the nature of the meeting was not as accurate as described in the reports", but did not deny that his lawyer had informed the president that he was dealing with Russian agents. His shadowy efforts to get Ukraine to launch investigations into the Bidens helped create the impeachment case against Trump.

One of the allegations that Trump told Ukraine to probe - that Ukraine interfered in the 2016 presidential election - is also believed to have originated with Russian intelligence, Politico reported in January.

Twitter and Facebook limiting users from even posting a link to the story, Wallace said, "Having said that, when it's on the front page of the papers, when the president of the United States is talking about it, I think they cut off people from being able to even discuss it is a bridge too far". The Post quoted four former officers, while the Times relied on four current and former officers.

Giuliani told the Post that at the time he was not aware of Derkash's alleged ties to Russian intelligence. He says a laptop containing the emails and intimate photos was simply abandoned in a DE fix shop and the shop owner reached out to Giuliani's lawyer.
