Ali was picked up after he played an important role in Trinbago Knight Riders' excellent run to the Caribbean Premier League title earlier this year as they won all their matches en route to the title. Ali Khan was the first player to be selected in the IPL by the usa, but he could not play a single match so far this season. But he missed the opportunity due to injury.

But Kolkata is not taking any pacer instead of Ali Khan.

Khan, 29, was himself an injury replacement, having come after England fast bowler Harry Gurney pulled out of IPL 2020 because of a scheduled shoulder surgery.

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have signed New Zealand wicketkeeper-batsman Tim Seifert as a replacement for injured United States pacer Ali Khan for the remaining matches in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

The news of Tim Seifert replacing Khan first emerged in a report in Stuff on Friday, which had mentioned that Northern Districts, Seifert's domestic team, had "confirmed" that the cricketer "was another absentee (for the Plunket Shield) in coming weeks, summoned to the IPL as a replacement player". However, in which team he's going to be involved hasn't revealed yet.

Seifert is well-known in T20 format as he's played for different franchise around the world.

The 25-year-old Seifert has played three ODIs and 24 T20Is for New Zealand since making his global debut in January 2019. He was Khan's teammate during the TKR's title-winning run at the CPL but didn't really make a mark, scoring just 133 runs in nine innings at a strike rate of 109.91. He has played total of 95 T20s in his career.
