"The Baby-Sitters Club" star Xochitl Gomez has joined the cast of "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness", according to an individual with knowledge of the project.

Benedict Wong and Chiwetel Ejiofor are also expected to return as sorcerers Wong and Karl Mordo. This is just speculation, as Gomez could have an entirely different role.

Given Gomez's age, there aren't many characters in Doctor Strange's comic canon that she would be an obvious pick for. Elizabeth Olsen will also appear as the Scarlet Witch, since WandaVision will feature some links to Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

"Doctor Strange" has been delayed multiple times due to the pandemic and is now slated to debut on March 25, 2022.

Originally set to be directed by Scott Derrickson, the sequel will now be helm by Spider-Man's Sam Raimi with Loki head writer Michael Waldron set to rewrite the script that was first written by The Turning scribe Jade Bartlett. The third "Spider-Man" movie is scheduled to open in theaters on December 17, 2021. News broke that Gomez is going to join Benedict Cumberbatch in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

The first Doctor Strange movie was released in 2016 with Benedict Cumberbatch starring in the titular role. It also scored an Oscar nomination for visual effects.

When I spoke with Gomez (via email) for The Baby-Sitter's Club, it was clear that she was an exceptionally talented young actor who took her craft seriously. The series, which earned overwhelmingly positive reviews, was based on Ann M. Martin's popular book series. Gomez's other credits include the TV show "You're the Worst", romance drama "Roped" and action adventure "Shadow Wolves". Loki also appeared in Endgame and was last seen after the events of the Avengers' first battle in NY, where he escapes with the Tesseract cube.
