"A goal of mine with the charity, which we haven't moved on yet because we need big funding, would be to open a gym on the side of town I grow up on", said Poirier.

'So if the stars align properly, based off what Conor is saying, then he could want to put himself in that picture for next year.

"For me personally, combat sports has changed my life, " Poirier said passionately.

There were discussions about Poirier fighting Ferguson as the co-main event of UFC 254 on October 24 on Fight Island in Abu Dhabi, but Poirier and UFC couldn't come to terms.

Dana White's "either take it or Leave it" approach saw a positive output as Conor McGregor accepts the proposed January 23, 2021 date to fight Dustin Poirier.

Poirier went on to add that he was offered the same amount to fight Chandler as he was offered to fight Ferguson. "I'm not sure why he said that. I thought we would end up making a deal and I would go to Abu Dhabi to fight".

FYI, the UFC has not confirmed the news.

This appears to be another example of how the UFC's pay-per-view model can sometimes create complications that otherwise would not have been in place which often leads to fighters such as Conor McGregor fighting fewer times in a calendar year than they would like. "But I already had plans in motion of going back home and also, I wanted to be paid more".

McGregor has still pledged $500,000 to Poirier's Good Fight Foundation charity, and has said he sees Poirier's southpaw stance as the ideal preparation for his bout with Filipino eight-weight boxing champion Pacquiao. "That's a slap in the face".

Diaz took exception to McGregor's original idea that he and Poirier conduct a sparring exhibition.

McGregor previously defeated Poirier via TKO back in 2014 at UFC 178.

"Because the Conor talks, not within the UFC but online, were starting to heat up and things were starting to look like".

"A win over Conor keeps my career trajectory upward", said Poirier about a potential fight with McGregor. "Something is coming. I know".

"I think Conor wants to fight, and here's an opportunity to fight a guy who's No. 2 in the division".

A rematch win over Poirier, who Khabib beat in a title defence previous year, would certainly put the former two-weight champion back in the mix.
