Frank Lampard names two Chelsea players not in the squad against Southampton

Mendy is missing the league game with an injury he's picked up during the global break and the new shot-stopper will be frustrated that he won't be able to knuckle down with a run of games.

Lampard will also be missing a key player in defence as Thiago Silva won't be available having returned late from global duty with Brazil.

Meanwhile, Brazilian centre-back Silva has been ruled out of the match due to the fact that he's had a long trip back from South America and he played in his nation's World Cup qualifier against Peru on Wednesday. He's got over some of the pain he had.

"With all the injuries we have in the number 10 position, with Stuey out and Moussa out, Theo has more chance to play on the weekend".

Attack: Lampard has plenty of options in attack as Christian Pulisic has been declared fit after returning to full fitness and he could start on the left wing against Southampton this weekend.

Chilwell was withdrawn from the England squad earlier this week in order to receive treatment at Chelsea on a foot problem which has troubled him since before his summer move from Leicester.

Ziyech is yet to make his competitive debut for Chelsea, having picked up a knee injury in a pre-season friendly against Brighton.

But he returned to action for Morocco and is expected to be a substitute on Saturday.
