MDH Reports 1,169 New Cases of COVID-19, Stearns County Adds 42

The Ellis County Health Department on Friday the average number of new coronavirus cases per day in the last seven days rose for the first time since October 5 to 13.

There were 38 new cases of COVID-19 identified in the county since Wednesday. The number of COVID-19 cases per 10,000 people is used in guidelines to help determine whether schools should go to distance learning.

There have been over 117,000 people who have tested positive for the coronavirus.

So far, 2,199 people have died from the coronavirus in Minnesota. However, case rates in Lyon County started rising again in September.

The Jamestown Public Schools District on Friday said it has been notified by the Chautauqua County Department of Health that a student at Fletcher Elementary School tested positive for COVID-19.

The death tally is the second highest since mid-June and comes one day after the Minnesota Department of Health reported 29 new deaths.

Altogether, the state has seen 2,199 deaths from the pandemic, with 70% of the deaths among residents of long-term care residents, including 11 deaths announced Thursday.

A cumulative total of 116,865 COVID-19 cases and 241 probable cases have been reported in Minnesota.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, patients with confirmed COVID-19 have mild to severe respiratory problems, with symptoms of fever, cough and shortness of breath.
