"It was much more about him than about the debaters, and I also think it's not complicated that Chris Wallace is voting for Joe Biden, that his politics are liberal", Cruz said. Cruz stated, "The press is partisan in this regard".

Cuomo kicked off the heated exchange by saying that "when you hear two hundred thousand people die, you don't say what it is. Byrd, who had a complete enlightenment about how hate was wrong, who changed his life, who spoke about it".

Moments later, Cruz attacked the CNN host's brother, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, over his response to the coronavirus pandemic and deaths in nursing homes.

When Cuomo asked Cruz about President Donald Trump refusing to condemn white supremacists and right-wing extremists, Cruz turned the question back around to focus on Joe Biden. The interview quickly turned contentious when Cruz chose to focus on host Chris Cuomo's brother, NY governor Andrew Cuomo, instead of President Donald Trump.

When Cruz said that putting infected patients in nursing homes was a colossal blunder that ended in the death of thousands, Cuomo refused to own up to it by saying that it was not unique to NY or New Jersey-that many places were doing the same thing. "Are you afraid of him, like he'll smack you down at home like he did in primaries?" "Why don't you talk to the president like you talk to my brother, Ted?"

"And he, you know, the snide comments he made after several of Trump's comments, I think, had no business coming from a debate moderator". Is that what it is? Confused, Cruz sarcastically replied, "Oh yeah, I'm scared of the Cuomos".

"I'm talking about the president". "The one who called you a liar, who said your wife was ugly, that guy!" To which Chris Cuomo quickly responded, "Yeah, why didn't the president help sooner?".
