Congratulations are in order for Joaquin Phoenix and Rooney Mara, who recently welcomed their first child, Us Weekly reports.

Joaquin's brother, River Phoenix, an actor known for his roles in "Stand By Me", "Running on Empty" and "My Own Private Idaho", died in October 31, 1993, when he was 23 years old, after a drug overdose at the Viper Room in West Hollywood.

According to worldwide portals, the news was shared by Russian filmmaker Victor Kossakovsky during a Q&A at the 2020 Zurich Film Festival on Sunday, post the screening of his documentary "Gunda", executive produced by Pheonix. It's thought that baby River was born a month ago.

The director also explained that Phoenix's Oscar acceptance speech from earlier this year is what inspired him to reach out for help on the film. Absolutely (feeling River's presence in his work).in virtually every movie that I made, there was a connection to River in some way. "When he was 17, my brother wrote this lyric, he said, 'Run to the rescue with love, and peace will follow, '" he said. It was confirmed in May that Mara, 35, and Phoenix, 45, were expecting their first child together. Now, for some incredible news, the couple, who got engaged in May 2019, reportedly welcomed their first child last month. The couple starred in the 2018 film Mary Magdalene.
