Though the show was Emmy-nominated during its fifth season, it dominated this year's awards with a total of nine wins out of its 15 nominations. "Congratulations again to John Oliver, I will be reporting him to ICE [Immigration and Customs Enforcement] tomorrow".

Soon after, many viewers turned to Twitter to complain about the joke after being reported that migrant women living in Georgia facilities had undergone'mass hysterectomy'.

One mentioned it was Hispanic Heritage Month, and Kimmel's joke appeared as a small Latinx representative at the Emmy Awards.

Many Emmy viewers found the joke to be in poor taste and took to social media to slam Kimmel. "And obviously, these people I love like family", Dan Levy told Kimmel on Tuesday when asked about the show continuing in the future.

Others shared similar feelings by pointing out that their families were deported by ICE and that it was not something to laugh at.

"May you have as much joy being holed up in a room with your family, as I did with my dear Roses", she joked during her acceptance speech.

"So Jimmy Kimmel can do Black-face and still end up on the Emmy's where he made an ICE deportation joke... and y'all say white privilege isn't a thing", one user tweeted.

Another Twitter user admitted that they did not think 'Kimmel was amusing. F *** You, Jimmy Kimmel.

Activist and writer Charlotte Claymer summed up the thoughts of the Internet: 'Eve... No jokes in calling ICE please.

Another added: "Jimmy Kimmel making an ICE joke in this political climate??? yeah he did not think this through".

Charlotte Climber:'Wow... Jimmy Kimmel.

Some people were upset because the joke came after the Department of Homeland Security's internal watchdog recently launched an investigation into a whistleblower complaint alleging that an outside doctor performed "mass hysterectomies" on immigrant women held in ICE custody at a Georgia detention facility.

'Everyone he sees has had a hysterectomy. 'He even took out a young woman's miscarriage'.

According to an ICI report, two women have been referred to an external gynecologist for hysterectomy since 2018.

The Inspector's Office began investigating this matter.
