Spurs have edge over Manchester United for Real Madrid's Reguilon

Romano had earlier told The Peoples Person in an exclusive interview that Reguilon was not a priority for Tottenham so there has been a remarkable turnaround in events.

The 31-year-old has scored 40 goals and provided 35 assists for his teammates during his time on the park.

Gareth Bale of Real Madrid looks on during the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 Second Leg match between Real Madrid and Ajax at Bernabeu on March 05, 2019 in Madrid, Spain.

He does not fit the age profile of players United tend to sign, although he might be viewed as an alternative option at a time when attempts to bring Borussia Dortmund and England youngster Jadon Sancho to Old Trafford appear to have stalled.

No deal has been done for the England global, though, and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is ready to turn his attention elsewhere.

The La Liga giants wanted a buyback clause inserted in any deal which was something United were absolutely against and so it seems it's cost them the deal.

The Sun suggests that Real Madrid may push for a permanent deal worth around £18.5m but United are now exploring all options as they prepare to turn their attention to Bale during the closing weeks of the window.

"He's obviously had a tough few years and not played the amount of football he would have hoped, but in terms of the sort of player he is, when you talk about Man United players of the past, he's someone who would get the crowd excited, get fans off their seats".

Signing Bale would go against Solskjaer's usual policy of buying hungry young players who he can improve but The Sun says he's open to the idea of buying a proven talent like the Welshman if needed. "One of those two, or someone in that position, needs to come in".
