Elsewhere, Nintendo Switch software continues to quietly record big numbers as The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild became the sixth best-seller of August.

According to NPD analyst Mat Piscatella, Madden NFL 21 was the best-selling title of August, improving on the sales of its predecessor in launch month by double-digit percentage figures.

The August U.S. software sales chart also saw a familiar franchise topping them thanks to the arrival of "Madden NFL 21". UFC 4 ranked as the third best-selling game of August on both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The console achieved the highest August dollar sales for a hardware platform in US history, according to the NPD Group's data.

As it turns out, and despite this being a year in which the company has barely revealed any new games, the Nintendo Switch has set a new record in hardware dollar sales in U.S. history for the month of August; information shared by NPD Group analyst Mat Piscatella. The Switch's August sales doubled the number of units sold in August 2019. "Switch was the best-selling hardware platform of the month".

Along with Madden NFL 21, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has enjoyed a successful August. With so many people spending extra time at home, more money is being spent on entertainment, and the Nintendo Switch is an excellent device for families stuck indoors with each other. Naturally, August's best-selling Switch game was Animal Crossing: New Horizons, followed by Ring Fit Adventure and the seemingly evergreen Mario Kart 8: Deluxe.
