The National Weather Service expects air quality to remain unhealthy at times through at least Thursday when a frontal system will spread showers across western Washington. Air quality in the Libby region is listed as hazardous, and very unhealthy in Thompson Falls. Air quality throughout the state has been heavily impacted.

"Air quality is expected to gradually improve for most regions (Monday) evening and overnight as higher smoke concentrations move southward", reads the statement.

Temperatures Tuesday in Portland are expected to top out near 70 degrees.

A healthy dose of rain in some areas of B.C. on Monday night helped clear out some of the wildfire smoke hanging over the province, but the air quality has returned to the unsafe levels seen since last week.

An employee with the Eugene VA reached out to KEZI 9 News by email and said that the building's smoke alarms went off early this morning, not because of a fire, but because of the sheer amount of smoke in the air outside.

Environment Canada extended its air quality advisories for the majority of the province again on Tuesday.

Fire officials in Whatcom County and the cities of Bellingham and Ferndale issued similar burn bans.

County officials also closed the Plantation Rifle Range in an effort to avoid sparking a wildfire.
