In adopting the iPad Pro design language, the iPad Air has also ditched the home button that has been present on Air models since 2013.

Apple also updated the cheapest iPad - just called the iPad - with new Apple Pencil features and faster chips.

The entry-level, eight-generation iPad (2020) now has the A12 Bionic chipset at the helm, with its 6-core CPU and 4-core GPU. And it will now work with other devices, such as Apple's own Smart Keyboard.

It will also be running iPadOS 14, and that gives you access to a ton. Pairing it with the Apple Pencil and a keyboard makes it a true triple threat.

Today Apple took the wraps off its newest tablets. Unfortunately, there's no longer a 3.5mm headphone jack so you'll have to get a dongle or go completely wireless. "[And] this is a big year for iPad". And oh boy, it's coming in some fun colors along with a almost edge-to-edge display.

The new iPad Air is powered by the new 5nm-based, six-core A14 Bionic chip for up to 40 percent faster performance and up to 30 percent faster graphics than the previous-generation iPad Air. And yes, this is the chip that's normally saved for new iPhones, but those aren't here just yet. Rather than a curved back, the iPad Air now has flat sides with more defined edges, making it look similar to the 11-inch iPad Pro. Instead of Face ID in the iPad Pro, the 2020 iPad Air features a Touch ID fingerprint sensor built into the sleep/wake button. The screen bezels are smaller, the port is USB-C and not Lightning anymore (and you get a 20W charger in the box). Those cameras should deliver clear and vibrant photos and videos. (It's still amusing that there are different Apple Pencils for the regular iPad and the iPad Pros.) Same as the old one the new iPad Air has a 10.2-inch display but the main difference is the new chip. You can get a bit more creative with color options.

For the first time in the iPad lineup, Apple is offering a total of 5 colours which include silver, space grey, rose gold, green and sky blue.

The iPad Air will starts at UGX 2.3m ($599), available starting next month. We'll circle back once preorders start.
