COVID-19 outbreak declared at Auburn Bay School in southeast Calgary

A COVID-19 case has been diagnosed in an individual from Whispering Ridge Community School, which remains open for in-person learning.

Pearson High School in Calgary now has two confirmed COVID-19 cases, which means an outbreak has been declared.

The cities of Edmonton and Calgary have the majority of active infections with 530 and 482, respectively.

Alberta Health Services guidelines define an outbreak as two or more confirmed cases at the same school within 14 days.

Chinook High School in Lethbridge and Leo Nickerson School in St. Albert are the other schools on the outbreak list.

"Public Health staff are investigating to determine who may have been exposed at your school to cases of COVID-19during their infectious period", said the letters dated September 13, 2020.

Administration also says the plans set in place to create zones and cohorts at the school worked as planned and helped complete contact tracing.

Last week, the education minister's office said it's unavoidable that cases would pop-up in schools as kids go back to class, adding, they'll support school boards and adapt to the situation as it evolves.
