The actor, 66, learned about the black rescue kitty available at the Lynchburg Humane Society in Virginia thanks to a local TV news segment featuring the pet as part of a "clear the shelters" campaign.

Dennis Quaid has adopted a cat named Dennis Quaid.

Quaid, who recently launched a pet podcast called The Pet Show through his company Audio Up, heard about the cat and felt it could make the flawless adoption story. Nope. A cat who was in a shelter is going to his furrrever home, and that's all that really matters.

She said: "I was like, "There is no way this is real, like, someone is pranking us".

Oh, did you think I was talking about the actor. "We reached out to the shelter".

At first, when they were contacted about Quaid, the human, adopting Quaid, the cat, shelter staff naturally thought they were being pranked.

The "Parent Trap" star - who is father to 28-year-old actor Jack Quaid, and 12-year-old twins Zoe and Thomas - is a known lover of pets, and even co-hosts a podcast titled "The Pet Show" with Jimmy Jellinek. They should keep naming their animals after celebrities and see who else comes through!

The Lynchburg Humane Society now has a cat named Jenny From the Block, so they're hoping that Jennifer Lopez will want to come in and get her own cat to share names with. As for black cats, they are often hard to place in homes due to superstitions surrounding them.

He said that it took multiple calls for the shelter to believe that it was really Dennis Quaid who wanted to adopt the cat. WSLS News was the first to report on Dennis Quaid the actor adopting Dennis Quaid the cat.

"We likewise have the animal reveal that Jimmy [Jellinek] here is doing and I'm executive producing on it, and truly it's ended up being among my favorites", stated Quaid.
