Argentina, Mexico to produce COVID-19 vaccine

President Trump announced a deal on Tuesday between the USA government and biotechnology company Moderna for 100 million doses of the company's COVID-19 vaccine.

Russian Federation claimed earlier Tuesday it has approved the first COVID-19 vaccine in the world, but there is skepticism about the product that came from a Moscow institute.

In recent weeks, the USA has made deals to acquire hundreds of millions of doses of potential COVID-19 vaccines from several companies as part of its Operation Warp Speed program, which aims to deliver a vaccine in the country by the end of the year.

The Trump administration will also have the option to buy an additional 400 million doses of mRNA-1273, the statement said.

Earlier this month, Moderna said it had priced its COVID-19 vaccine mRNA-1273 at up to $37 dose in the low-volume deals it had struck at that time. The Japanese government has also reached an agreement to secure doses for 60 million people by the end of June next year. That means the United States has already signed advance agreements for 800 million doses of vaccine for a 330 million population. Then there is another United States $1.95 billion agreement with Pfizer and BioNtech for another 100 million doses. As far as the financial projections of procuring the vaccines are concerned, the members of the Expert Group touched upon the issue but did not hold any detailed discussions as there are multiple vaccine candidates in the race and some of them are single dose and some multiple dose vaccines.

The pact is for the creation/enhancement of manufacturing capacities for drug substance and product for Johnson & Johnson's Covid-19 vaccine candidate, Ad26.COV2.S.
