Temperatures are once again rising in the City of Toronto after a short but lovely stretch of more moderate summer weather - and severe thunderstorms could be the result.

Sunday may not be a super fun day for those who don't like hot weather.

The rain alert comes just hours after the area was also placed under a heat warning, with temperatures expected to top 30 C to start the week.

"Extreme heat affects everyone", warns Environment Canada.

Environment Canada has issued a heat warning for Toronto that is in effect on Sunday and Monday, with temperatures expected to be in the low 30s on both days.

Environment Canada says maximum temperatures Sunday could reach 32 degrees, with a humidex of 40.

According to the weather agency risks are the highest for young children, pregnant women, older adults, those with chronic illnesses, and those working or exercising outdoors.

Outdoor workers are reminded to take regularly scheduled breaks in a cool place and people or pets should never be left inside a parked vehicle.
