Blast tears through Baltimore neighbourhood with at least 5 people trapped: Firefighters

First responders are searching for people who were trapped in an explosion that leveled multiple row homes in Baltimore, Maryland, killing at least one person and critically injuring multiple others.

Images on WBFF television show a section of row houses destroyed with rubble strewn about.

Firefighters rescued at least three people, all in critical condition, according to a tweet from the Baltimore Firefighters IAFF Local 734.

At least one person was trapped in the wreckage.

A third alarm has been called for the scene in the 6500 block of Reisterstown Road, prompting a response from 200 Baltimore City and County fire and rescue crews.

Officials from Baltimore Gas and Electric Co and the Baltimore Office of Emergency Management were at the scene, the Baltimore Sun reported. "Once the gas is off we can begin to safely assess the situation including inspections of BGE equipment".
