'Sexualised' Trolls toy removed from shelves after 'paedophilia' claims

It is intended that the button would be activated - and the doll would laugh - when placed in a sitting position, . As a result, McManis argued that the toy could have a negative impact on impressionable children and asked for people to sign the petition to have the Poppy doll removed from stores.

The doll has now been removed from sale after another mother, Jessica McManis, started an online Change.org petition calling for it to be taken out of stores, accusing it of condoning pedophilia. "It's damaging and has long term affects [sic] on a child's mental/physical health!"

Julie Duffy, Hasbro's spokeswoman, told CNN that, "this feature was created to react when the doll was seated, but we recognize the placement of the sensor may be perceived as inappropriate".

Hasbro spokeswoman Julie Duffy spoke to The Providence Journal about the doll and the company's decision to pull it from stores.

Duffy also confirmed that Hasbro is "in the process of removing the item for purchase".
