Soon after, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and other law enforcement testified they found the bodies of the children in shallow graves on Daybell's property.

Lori Vallow competed in the Mrs. Texas contest.

Daybell late previous year married Lori Vallow Daybell, who's charged with conspiring to help him keep the bodies of her children hidden.

"I don't know", Chad Daybell said.

Chad Daybell's defense attorney, John Prior, also will get a chance to argue his side during the hearing, that is expected to continue Tuesday. The brother later died of a blood clot in his lung.

A courtroom that included her husband, Chad Daybell, heard Lori Vallow tell police officers on a recording made last November, "I look like a suspect, but I'm a good person". "So part of me is processing, 'I can't believe you're friends with these people.' The other part of me is like, 'How did you even believe any of the things they shared to you?"

"I'm sorry you feel that way, sweetheart", Lori Dayball responded.

But Gibb went along with Daybell's scheme, telling the court she felt "horrible" about her deceit and later told the same detective she was lying.

Prosecutors played a recording of a jailhouse phone call between Lori Vallow and Daybell.

She also committed one of the overt acts that police allege implicated the defendant in a conspiracy to hide evidence of her children's deaths: "Falsely informed the Rexburg Police that JJ was in Arizona with Melanie Gibb".

The odd case began last summer after Cox fatally shot Lori Vallow's estranged husband, Charles Vallow, in suburban Phoenix in what he asserted was self-defense.

At the time, Charles Vallow had filed for divorce claiming his wife believed she was a god-like entity responsible for bringing in Biblical end times.

A short time later, she and the kids moved to Idaho, where Chad Daybell lived. He ran a small publishing company and had written many fiction books about apocalyptic scenarios loosely based on the theology of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

At the time, Chad Daybell was married to Tammy Daybell. Authorities grew suspicious when he married Lori Vallow just two weeks later. Tammy's body has been exhumed but the autopsy results have not yet been released.

The video of the hearing shows the defendant and grieving grandparents looking on as Rexburg Police Detectives Ray Hermosillo, Ron Ball and David Stubbs testified about the day that they questioned Vallow Daybell about her young son's whereabouts. They were found in Hawaii months later.
