Adebayor: Man City too strong for Real Madrid; they miss Ronaldo

"City may never have a better chance to win the Champions League", Rooney wrote in his column for the Sunday Times.

City will be missing star striker Sergio Aguero through injury in the second leg, but Real will also be without a talisman with Sergio Ramos ineligible due to suspension.

Rooney, who won the competition with Manchester United in 2008, said City have their best opportunity yet to lift the trophy for the first time.

By far the best change they have made is to nearly force the Professional Game Match Officials Board (PGMOL) and the Premier League to allow the on-pitch referee to use the pitchside monitor for subjective decisions.

"Real will target their centre-halves and it's a worry that this season every other [Premier League] "Big Six" club beat City".

But Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers have shown that it's no impossible.

"In those games, especially in Manchester United's three defeats of City, what you saw was the opposition sitting back, staying compact and hitting City on the break".

If a team has 10 or more cases of COVID-19 inside their squad, then they will be obliged to play if they have 13 or more players (including one goalkeeper) available from their submitted A list.

Amongst the rules, UEFA has placed the burden on the home side to find an alternative stadium, in a neutral country, if their opponent faces national government restrictions on the part of the home club's government that bans them from travelling to the home side's country.

All eyes will be on Manchester City as they take on Real Madrid in a mouth-watering Champions League clash this weekend. They don't have to chase the game. They had that scoring machine.

"They lost the first leg at home, and it is going to be very hard without the fans, against Manchester City, the city, the weather, but it is not impossible. It could be a game of cat-and-mouse".

Portugal will play host to the Champions League final on 23 August.
