After some delay, the Google Pixel 4a is official, and it's exactly what you would expect the successor to the Pixel 3a to be - simple, affordable, and packed with Google smarts.

A fingerprint scanner will sit on the back as well, your regular capacitive fingerprint scanner.

Google has stated that the Pixel 4A's launch had been somewhat delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic, which likely caused delays in the supply chain, according to The Verge. But I could live without the wireless charging, face unlock and motion gesture features that did not make the cut from the Pixel 4.

A 5.81-inch fullHD+ display with a 60Hz refresh rate will be placed on the front.

Google has officially unveiled the Pixel 4a, a new mid-range smartphone that may make you forget about buying a flagship device. Let's deal with the Pixel 5 first.

There's a 3.5mm headphone socket, with Google hanging onto a popular legacy feature, while the USB-C on the bottom of the phone allows charging of the 3140mAh battery, with an 18W charger in the box to make sure it's a quick charge. You can see how these two phones compare right here. We'll find out full details tomorrow, so watch this space.

Well, it seems nearly certain that this device will be the long-awaited Pixel 4a.

Apple is actually rumored to be working on a new version of the ‌iPhone SE‌ called the iPhone SE Plus that would have an all-display design similar to Apple's more expensive iPhones, with a fingerprint sensor built into the power button.

As for the 5G variant of the Pixel 4a, imagine if a user bought the standard Pixel 4a but would have wanted a 5G variant, that's a very quick route to very unhappy customers.

Speaking of cameras, there's just a single-lens 12.2-MP camera on the rear, but thanks to Google's image processing no-how it promises to be one of the standout features of the phone.

The Google Pixel 4a will be released on August 20. Nothing hugely groundbreaking or exciting, but it seems Google has tried to stuff everything good about the Pixel 4 into a smaller, cheaper device.

Still, after all that, we now we can look forward to what the Pixel 5 has to offer, since it probably won't be long before that launches too. But I bet you probably won't miss a lot of them. Albeit with slightly less impressive internal hardware that the Pixel 4 has. In the meantime, if you want a phone that isn't going to cost close to £1,000, then the Pixel 4a is there for the taking.

Or will be, come October.
