Looking at the press render, these phones look basically ready to roll out and their inclusion in whatever it is Google is ready to announce today could be the reasoning behind the massive delays we've seen with the Pixel 4a unveiling.

The budget-minded Pixel 4a is coming out four months after Apple released a discount iPhone, the SE, priced at US$399.

Talking of the display, the Pixel 4A sports a 5.81-inch OLED display with an FHD+ resolution of 2340 x 1080 pixels and 19.5:9 aspect ratio.

The Pixel 4a will ship on August 20, and in order to be the lucky one to grab the device, you can pre-order it now. Thanks to Google's camera wizardry, the Pixel line of devices take some incredible photos no matter how dark it is. We've all heard plenty about the fact that Google doesn't look primed to release a proper flagship phone this year and that their efforts would circle around mid-range chips like the Snapdragon 765G for the Pixel 5. We do have the same great 12-megapixel camera experience, as well as the same RAM and storage capacity as the Pixel 3a.

Starting at $799, the Pixel 4a 5G will cost $100 more than a standard Pixel 4a, and while recent rumours claim the Pixel 4a 5G will also come with a larger screen and battery, those specs haven't been officially confirmed just yet.

Google has also updated its Personal Safety app so that it can detect things like a vehicle crash and then automatically contact emergency services in case of an accident.

Pixel 4a, the long-awaited successor to the Pixel 3a, should have been released in May but the coronavirus pandemic hit. It also supports the newer, faster version of the Google Assistant that the search giant announced in 2019. It's still a plastic phone like the Pixel 3a was, but the body has a soft-touch texture that makes it extra grippy.

Apple is actually rumored to be working on a new version of the ‌iPhone SE‌ called the iPhone SE Plus that would have an all-display design similar to Apple's more expensive iPhones, with a fingerprint sensor built into the power button. Apple's iPhone revenue grew year-over-year in its fiscal third-quarter of 2020 after facing several quarters of decline, an accomplishment that Apple partially attributed to the success of its smaller, cheaper iPhone model.

The availability of a lower-priced model was a major reason Apple's iPhone shipments during the April-June period climbed 11% from the same time previous year, according to research firm Internal Data Corp. The Pixel 4a is only available from Google (unlocked) and Verizon. The Pixel 4a XL is expected to sell for $499. That's certainly not bad for a $349 phone.
