Who is Racing Point Reserve Driver?

Perez tested positive for COVID-19 on Thursday and will now miss Sunday's British Grand Prix after being placed into quarantine.

Nico Hulkenberg on Friday reflected on a "special, insane and wild" 24 hours that saw him make a dramatic overnight return to Formula One at the British Grand Prix.

Gutierrez last raced in Formula One back in 2016 for Haas having spent the two previous seasons with Sauber.

I have no symptoms at all so it just shows how vulnerable we all are to this virus. I knew I had a great vehicle underneath me, and the team has done a fantastic job.

"A great effort by the team, I want to thank all the night shift guys for doing an unbelievable job to get me into the vehicle quite comfortably". After Hungary I took a private plane to Mexico to see my mum for two days because she had a big accident. "As soon as she left hospital, I was able to see her", said the 30 year-old.

"I just got it, I don't know from where".

"I want to thank my fellow drivers for all the support they have given me, my team, the authorities, the fans, it is a tough moment for me at the moment but I'm sure I will come back stronger from this".

The German left Formula 1 at the end of a year ago having been replaced by Esteban Ocon at Renault for 2020, but of course previously spent five seasons at the team then known as Force India, initially as reserve driver before racing for them in 2012 and between 2014-2016.

Sergio Perez's Racing Point boss believes Formula One drivers could now be forced to stay in their bubbles for the rest of the season.

Racing Point - which gets its engines from Mercedes - basically copied Mercedes' vehicle design from 2019 for the 2020 season and it's paid off. "I've got the best of everything!"

"They're working from the factory, they haven't come into the paddock, but my anticipation is they will be negative again and then we'll make a decision on whether they should come into the paddock".

"The last 24 hours have been a bit special, insane and wild", Hulkenberg acknowledged.

He added his thanks to the Racing Point team for their part in his swift preparation for the unexpected call-up.

Isolation requirements for people who have coronavirus mean Perez will certainly miss the 70th Anniversary GP next weekend, and possibly the Spanish Grand Prix a week later.

Hulkenberg was due to be taking part in a GT auto test at the Nurburgring, but abandoned those plans to accept Racing Point's offer and fly to Silverstone.
