Prince Andrew 'lobbied U.S. government' on behalf of paedophile Epstein

Two documents that were not released as scheduled Thursday were depositions Maxwell gave in the civil lawsuit in 2016.

The documents released late Thursday were from a now-settled defamation lawsuit filed by one of Epstein's alleged victims, Virginia Roberts Giuffre.

Prince Andrew allegedly tried to lobby the USA government on behalf of Jeffrey Epstein so that the billionaire could get a "sweetheart plea deal " for an underage prostitution case in 2008, according to newly-released court documents.

Other documents that have now been made public include the testimony of Virginia Roberts Giuffre, a key whistle-blower in the case, who also alleges that Prince Andrew slept with her while she was a teenager (something that he has repeatedly denied, notably during his Newsnight interview in which he claims he can not remember ever meeting her).

Ghislaine Maxwell, the ex-girlfriend of convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein (who died in prison last year), was finally apprehended and arrested by the Federal Bureau of Investigation on 2 July after several years of living under the radar. She said the couple subsequently pressured her into having sex with numerous rich or notable men, including the Duke of York, US politicians, wealthy entrepreneurs, a famous scientist and fashion designer.

"You have done nothing wrong and I would urge you to start acting like it", Epstein wrote in January 2015, as more allegations of sexual abuse against him surfaced.

When asked by King whether she thought there should be men panicking over what Maxwell might tell authorities, Giuffre said she would "really hope they are".

One email, sent from Epstein's email address but written in Maxwell's voice, appeared to be a draft a statement or set of talking points for Maxwell to use in defending herself.

"I demanded release of all documents because they contain emails and manuscripts proving in Guiffre's own words that she never met me", Dershowitz said. She faces six counts, including perjury, and faces up to 35 years in prison if convicted.

Virginia Roberts Giuffre speaks during a press conference outside a Manhattan court in NY on August 27, 2019. She's the one who abused me on a regular basis.

Prosecutors accuse the 58-year-old of recruiting and grooming girls as young as 14 to be abused by Epstein.

They show that the pair corresponded in 2015, despite Maxwell's lawyers claiming in a bail appeal this month that she had no contact with her former partner in more than a decade.

Maxwell's attorneys tried to stop the documents from surfacing and asked a USA district court judge to intervene with a phone call.

Epstein was found hanged at age 66 last August in a Manhattan jail, while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges for abusing women and girls in Manhattan and Florida from 2002 to 2005.

They said Ms Maxwell had been promised confidentiality before being forced to answer many "personal, sensitive, and allegedly incriminatory questions", only to be sandbagged when prosecutors quoted from the deposition in her indictment.
