The England midfielder (27) had assumed greater responsibility for his younger siblings after his mother fell ill earlier in the season.

"I wasn't performing and he [Solskjaer] was on me all the time. He wanted more from me", he added. He has played for plenty of clubs and won many trophies.

Lingard also feared for his future in the team after posting a freakish video on social media with teammate Marcus Rashford before the start of the last campaign.

The Manchester United midfielder enjoyed a cathartic end to a hard campaign, scoring his first Premier League goal of the season in the 98th minute of the final game against Leicester to seal qualification to next season's Champions League.

United continued their resurgence under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as they clinched third in the Premier League ahead of Chelsea.

"Of course it's a mistake from the keeper, also but if Jesse doesn't go there the goal doesn't come so this is why we work", Fernandes told MUTV. However, he claimed that, when they faced each other in Man United's clash with Juventus in last season's Champions League group stage, Ronaldo didn't give him too much trouble.

"I'm always thinking about the next one".
