"During this era of political and cultural division, LGBTQ images in media are crucial in accelerating acceptance for the LGBTQ community and countering the unsafe rise in anti-LGBTQ rhetoric", GLAAD President & CEO Sarah Kate Ellis, said in a statement. The retired National Basketball Association player has four kids in all.

Union echoed her husband's sentiments and shared a powerful message about acceptance and the Black Lives Matter movement.

"Black lives matter, and Black trans lives matter". The event streamed live on GLAAD's social media and will also air on Logo on Monday, August 3 at 8pm ET.

The couple, who share one-year-old Kaavia James, as well as three other children from Dwyane's previous relationships, have been advocates for the LGBTQ+ community and open about their transgender daughter, Zaya's journey.

The clip, titled Meet Zaya, showed the 12-year-old talking about the importance of being "true to yourself". I think going forward, and I'm ready to live my truth. "I'd love for you guys to call me Zaya, '" he recalled.

As they did so they used their platform to celebrate Zaya and to thank her for expanding their view of the world.

It's fitting that the award they presented went to Pose, as the couple had previously reached out to the cast for advice after Zaya came out as transgender. "There's no one way to dress or to love your body", she said.
