The Pittsburgh Penguins got in their one exhibition game prior to this weekend's National Hockey League playoff opener with the Montreal Canadians, losing in overtime to the Philadelphia Flyers, 3-2, Tuesday night. "As a team, we have made a decision to lock arms during the playing of the United States and Canadian anthems as a sign of solidarity with the Black community", Bruins players said in a statement.

Competitive hockey returned, and the Philadelphia Flyers vanquished their fiercest rival in dramatic fashion.

Each player stood next to a player from the opposing team, including Penguins captain Sidney Crosby next to Flyers center Sean Couturier, Penguins forward Patric Hornqvist next to Flyers forward Jakub Voracek and Penguins defenseman Jack Johnson next to Flyers captain Claude Giroux.

Coach Mike Sullivan says the Penguins' players have been outstanding since their return to the ice.

The Toronto Maple Leafs scored 33 seconds into the return to play as the Leafs doubled-up on the Canadiens 4-2 at Scotiabank Arena and Connor McDavid scored two goals in a 4-1 win against the Calgary Flames at Rogers Place. It will be the only exhibition game before the season restarts with a best-of-five play-in series Saturday against Montreal.
