The 21-year-old Pulisic sent the Blues on their way with a brilliant goal just five minutes into the contest at Wembley Stadium.

At the end of a season in which many have predicted that he will become the most successful American player in English Premier League history, U.S. star Christian Pulisic has reached another milestone with an early Cup Final goal. He missed 11 matches this season with muscle troubles in his leg.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang equalised in the first half from the penalty spot after Azpilicueta pulled the striker down.

It's a awful disappointment for Pulisic, who was really hitting his stride with Chelsea and showing himself to be one of the most dynamic attacking players in the Premier League. The Blues misery was only compounded when Mateo Kovacic was shown a red card following a second bookable offense, and Pedro was stretchered off in second-half stoppage time with a shoulder issue.

Chelsea also still have faint Champions League hopes. Pulisic, who was signed last offseason from Borussia Dortmund for $73 million, finished his first league season at Chelsea with nine goals and six assists in 25 matches.

Barring a miraculous recovery, the Blues will nearly certainly be without Pulisic's considerable services for next week's UEFA Champions League round of 16 second leg against Bundesliga champ Bayern Munich.
