Arsenal have been offered the chance to sign Philippe Coutinho from Barcelona for a "notional" £9million, according to reports.

The future of the former Liverpool FC playmaker has been a constant source of uncertainty over the last few weeks due to the fact that he has fallen out of favour at FC Barcelona.

Coutinho is unlikely to move anywhere for straight cash this summer, given every big club has less money to spend, but plenty of assets to trade.

Signing Coutinho for £9m would be a huge coup for Arsenal.

Speaking in an interview quoted by The Sun, Rivaldo said: "Coutinho will soon return from his loan at Bayern to Barcelona, but I doubt he can revive his career there". You can see how [Liverpool] build their squad and there is no magic, you need to improve the squad with quality, quality players.

While Arteta opted for an initial 4-2-3-1 in the Premier League season finale against Watford, he's likely to revert back to 3-4-3, which has served him very well for most of the post-restart campaign.

"It would be a good opportunity for the Brazilian to rediscover his best form and show that he continues to be an excellent player who belongs to the elite".

Coutinho completed a mouth watering £140m move from Premier League champions Liverpool in January 2018 but has struggled ever since the transfer, failing to blend in at Barcelona.

Reports claim the North London outfit will have to pay a certain fee, in addition to Matteo Guendouzi to be able to land the player who is now on loan with German Bundesliga outfit Bayern Munich.

But Barca are prepared to cut their losses on the player and strengthen their squad ahead of next season.
