USC and UCLA will meet each other in the season opener on September 26 at the Rose Bowl, the Pac-12 said Friday in announcing a conference-only schedule that has been drastically altered by the novel coronavirus.

"From the onset of the COVID-19 crisis, we have been committed to prioritizing the health and safety of our student-athletes and all those connected to our athletic programs", Pac-12 commissioner Larry Scott said in a prepared statement. The one non-conference game was meant, in part, to salvage traditional rivalry games with SEC schools like Clemson-South Carolina and Louisville-Kentucky.

The Pac-12 conference made the announcement Wednesday.

WSU plays 10 of the 12 teams from its original fall schedule, but the revised version adds a 10th game at USC.

The Pac-12 Championship game will be held on December 18 or 19, but won't be played art Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas as originally planned, but instead at a campus site that'll determined at a later date.

The Pac-12's CEO Group approved conference-only scheduling plans for other fall sports, including men's & women's soccer, women's volleyball and men's & women's cross country. "At the same time, we will continue to evaluate the best available science, data and advice of public health officials as we make decisions and any required adjustments going forward", said Scott.

The Pac-12 on Friday released its 10-game, conference-only football schedule for 2020, with a couple of major rivalry games in Week 1.
