Another year, another Far Cry from Ubisoft - it's the sixth instalment in the franchise and the company has announced the game and launched its official marketing materials online. As for its setting, following decades of economic sanctions, Yara has essentially been left impoverished, divided, and more or less frozen in time.

Far Cry 6 is due out on 21 February 2021 for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, PC, and Google Stadia. In Far Cry 6, Esposito will play and voice antagonist President Anton Castillo, a Fidel Castro-like dictator who reigns over the fictional island of Yara.

With performances from renowned actor and Emmy Award Nominee Giancarlo Esposito (Better Call Saul, The Boys, The Mandalorian) joined by Anthony Gonzalez (Coco), a score created by film and television composer Pedro Bromfman (Narcos), and an opening sequence directed by Emmy Award victor Patrick Clair (Westworld, True Detective), Far Cry 6 brings in Hollywood-calibre talent to bolster the narrative experience. Yet paradise has a price, and enriching his country means subjugating those who don't adhere to his vision.

As Dani Rojas (playable as a female or male character), you will help stoke the fires of revolution through guerrilla warfare across the island of Yara, from verdant jungles to the urban streets of the capital city, Esperanza. If you pre-order, you get a Chorizo Libertad outfit and a Discos Locos Deadly Disc Launcher weapon.

The Gold Edition will include the base game and the Season Pass.

While we don't get any gameplay at all, or even an idea of what the player's origin story within the game will be, it does give us a great look at Breaking Bad's Giancarlo Esposito as Anton, and his regime leading the country of Yara with an iron fist.
