Alberta Health said that as of Friday afternoon, there were 592 active COVID-19 cases in the province, 50 of those cases involve people being hospitalized and nine of those patients are in intensive care units.

Total deaths decreased by one after health officials confirmed one of the fatalities at the Misericordia Community Hospital was deemed to be unrelated to COVID-19. "If there is any question, we count the case as a COVID-19 death and then have the death certificate and file reviewed".

"Alberta Health has learned that one of the deaths previously linked to the Misericordia outbreak has now been reclassified as due to other causes, and is no longer considered as linked to COVID-19", stated an update posted to Covenant Health's website. To date, there have been five deaths connected to the hospital outbreak.

The 312-bed hospital also closed its emergency department, is not allowing visitors, except in end-of-life situations, and is postponing day procedures. Central Alberta has 13 cases while northern Alberta sits at 44.

There are now 50 Albertans in hospital, nine of whom are in intensive care units.

Provincial labs have completed 514,970 tests.

The number of Albertans who have recovered from COVID-19 has increased to 7,844.
