"The gap between active COVID-19 cases and recovered cases is progressively increasing in the country". In 18 States and UTs the recovery rates are higher than the national average, the Ministry said.

As has been the case with the number of infections, two thirds of India's deaths have also come in the last one month.

"We should not forget that in our country, 49 districts alone account for 80 per cent of COVID-19 cases". In an indication of the worsening Covid-19 situation in Kerala, contact cases have started exceeding cases among returnees from overseas and other states in the daily tally.

In the same period, 475 patients succumbed to the infection across the country, taking the death toll to 21,604, the Union Health Ministry said.

Harsh Vardhan stated: "As we move forward, our focus shall be on the management of COVID-19 through strict containment measures and surveillance; utilizing full testing capacity; focus on monitoring of co-morbid and elderly population; predicting emerging hotspots leveraging digital tools such as Aarogya Setu; ensuring seamless patient admission processes; focus on infrastructure preparedness (critical care beds, oxygen, ventilators and logistics)".
