Sportsmail understands the 27-year-old midfielder is open to committing his future to the club, despite having expressed a desire to leave on several occasions since rejoining United from Juventus in 2016 for a then world record £89million.

The 27-year-old World Cup victor has been linked with moves to both his former club Juventus and Real Madrid.

He has been encouraged to stay after returning from injury to forge an exciting partnership with Bruno Fernandes in a United side now unbeaten in 16 games under Solskjaer and playing some of their best football since Sir Alex Ferguson retired.

Pogba has entered the final year of his deal at Old Trafford, although the club hold an option to extend until 2022.

Solskjaer was delighted to retain Matic's services until 2023, and said: "I am delighted that Nemanja has signed a new contract, I know his experience, professionalism and leadership will be invaluable to this young talented group". We want to build a squad for the future.

"Hopefully we can do something. I know that since Paul came back he is looking better and better, he is enjoying his football and let's see where it takes us".

"We're not saying that's definitely going to happen but that would appear to suggest Manchester United's midfield certainly now has the numbers in so I don't see recruitment coming in there".

Solskjaer is expected to make signings this summer, with Borussia Dortmund's England global Jadon Sancho among the players he is keeping a close eye on.

Solskjaer is facing a crucial summer in the transfer market as he looks to close the gap on Manchester City and Liverpool at the top of the table. "I think the whole world has changed, both financially and the perception that we've got on values". "Every time I put a case in front of Ed (Woodward) I think it's a sensible and realistic one". I've always got the club in the front of my mind. I don't think short term and I don't think personally this would fit me for a short period of time.

"We've been linked with many good players and every individual linked with Man United looks at it as a compliment".

Asked if plans are in place to try and get Pogba to sign a new deal, Solskjaer said: "Well, I can't comment on discussions between players and the club".

'There's been loads said about him and we need to be aware of him, if he's off the left, middle or right, ' he added.
