"There's obviously been a lot of stimulus put in the system over the last couple bills, and so the price tag for us would be that", Marc Short, chief of staff to Pence, said in an interview with Bloomberg Radio. There, he spoke about who might get a stimulus check explaining, "I think the people who have been hit the hardest are people who make about $40,000 a year or less".

President Donald Trump has also gone on record as saying he favors a second payment, and said he is in favor of paying the public even more than Democrats during this round.

Early August has been identified as the sweet-spot for a second coronavirus stimulus payment, and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell's recent comments seem to back that up.

Congress is now on recess, but is expected to begin discussions on another round of aid when it reconvenes July 20. McConnell has said he wants Congress to complete its work on the next coronavirus package by then.

More than 100 economists last month urged U.S. Congress to immediately pass a "multifaceted relief bill of a magnitude commensurate with the challenges our economy faces" as the COVID-19 fallout continues to ripple through the country.

While Congress works on putting together another stimulus package as coronavirus cases continue to climb in states throughout the US, lawmakers appear to agree on issuing more direct payments to some American households.
