Harvey Elliott has signed a first professional contract at Liverpool, with Jürgen Klopp describing the deal as "brilliant news" for the champions.

Midfielder Curtis Jones - born in Liverpool and a product of the club's youth system - signed a five-year contract on Saturday.

"The dream is to have all the boys [from the academy]", Klopp said.

"The dream is to have a team full of "Scousers". What we want to be is the sport for everybody with a Scouse soul".

However, training under Klopp and being part of the first-team squad is only going to make Elliott a better player and will help him in his development as a footballer.

More recently, Trent Alexander-Arnold has established himself as Liverpool's first-choice right-back, also winning nine England caps.

"I proved in the past at Dortmund and here it is not about how old you are but how good you are".

"It's not a bad thing to be a Scouser, it's a good thing because they are hard working and it's eminently clear that they would fight like insane. The flawless scenario is that we have these role model professionals around", the Liverpool boss told reporters in a virtual news conference ahead of their visit to Brighton and Hove Albion on Wednesday. We are here for preparing careers until the boys are ready to play week in, week out.

From a United point of view, signing a player of Thiago's ability could be a huge step on the way to the Manchester-based club starting to compete for the league title once again.

Sadio Mane, who initially struggled to find his feet at Anfield after arriving from Southampton in 2016, has scored 38 league goals in the last two seasons.

"I remember when we took this talented player from Southampton he lacked consistency".

"The level he performs at is unbelievable. He came as a young boy and he grew up, matured here".
