Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides All Get Dark Theme on Android

Because beginning this week, Android users will officially have access to a attractive dark mode in Docs, Sheets, and Slides - apps many of us use regularly, if not constantly. I live by this aesthetic motto, and even though the pace at which developers have been adopting dark mode has been commendable, Google has so far shied away from bringing it to its own productivity apps.

Three weeks ago we reported that Google might release the long-awaited dark theme for three apps: Docs, Sheets, and Slides. Dark themes for those apps are now rolling out. but that roll out might take longer than you'd like. It will allow you to have the dark theme enabled within each of these Google apps no matter what settings your Android system uses.

For this theme, settings and navigation menus are a lovely slate grey, while white documents converted to a dark theme will be a little closer to a true black. That means viewing documents, spreadsheets, and slideshows in both light or dark themes.

You should also be able to quickly toggle themes when viewing an individual document/sheet/slide by tapping the 3-dot menu (top right) and then looking for "View in light/dark theme".
