So with the new SmartReply feature on Youtube, it will help YouTube creators speed up the replying time and with better replies. "Ideally, suggestions would only be displayed when it is likely that the creator would reply to the comment". Now, the company is extending the functionality to YouTube Creators to more quickly interact with fans in the comments. The feature will be rolled out for creators and will suggest what they should write back to those who comment on their videos.

For example, YouTube's SmartReply will auto-suggest a heart emoji in response to the comments with a heart emoji or if someone commented with a negative comment, SmartReply will auto-suggest a helpful reply. This is one reason why it was so hard for Google to implement the system on YouTube.

Delivering SmartReply for YouTube was a lot more complex for Gooogle than building it for more formal ways of communication.

Google also comprehensively explained as to how it overcame such technical challenges on its AI Blog which was recently updated. This model learns comment and reply representation through a computationally efficient dilated self-attention network, and represents the first cross-lingual and character byte-based SmartReply model. There's no word on when it will be available in other languages. Google also said that it wanted to develop a system where SmartReply only made suggestions when it was very likely that the creator would want to reply to the comment and when the feature has the ability to recommend a reasonable reply. For this, the company has trained auxiliary models to identify which comments should trigger the SmartReply feature.
