The David Ayer-directed film saw its first trailer drop on Wednesday, which features LaBeouf as Creeper and co-star Bobby Soto as David, two "tax collectors" for a Los Angeles-based crime lord named Wizard.

According to the synopsis shared by distributors RLJE Films, The Tax Collector is headlined by Bobby Soto as David and Shia LaBeouf as Creeper who are working for the crime lord Wizard, collecting his cut from the profits of local gangs' illicit dealings.

When their boss Wizard's rival returns from Mexico a power struggle ensures, leaving David to fight for his family's safety.

"You don't think he wants to spill blood?"

In the trailer, LaBeouf is the actor featured most prominently and he plays the character mentioned in the movie title, but actor Bobby Soto, who is Latino is often alongside him and also featured on the movie poster.

Yahoo Entertainment has reached out to both Ayer and LaBeouf for comment. This looks like Ayer treading familiar ground, and bringing his Fury actor Shia LaBeouf along for the ride.

Production on The Tax Collector was finished back in August 2018 and it was originally scheduled for a 2019 release, but it had been delayed to this year, Newsweek reports. There was also talk about whether LaBeouf is, in fact, the lead. It hits theaters and on-demand services on August 7.
