Ace choreographer Saroj Khan passes away at 72

She is survived by her husband B Sohanlal, son Raju Khan and daughter Sukaina Khan. She had earlier complained of breathing difficulties and tested negative for the novel coronavirus.

"She stood up for the rights of people". For the uninitiated, Saroj Khan was one of the reasons Madhuri became the "Dhak Dhak" girl (after Dixit's song "Dhak Dhak" from "Beta"). Bought biryani on every song and fed the whole crew so lovingly.

She then shared the priceless tip the choreographer gave her, "She then told me "if you can't move your hands and legs you need to dance with your face". Thank you for the memories Masterji.

Noted for her work in films as she struck a bond with nearly all the leading ladies of Bollywood and having choreographed them at some point in time, Saroj Khan aka "Masterji" as people would fondly call her is no more at the age of 72.

Stars and fans across India mourned her demise.

Born in 1948, her introduction into the film industry was as a child artist. They got married when she was 13 and he was 41. Her collaboration with Sridevi on other projects like Chandni and Nagina further boosted her profile.

She was a recipient of three National Awards for films Devdas, Jab We Met and Sringaram (Tamil). Her last film was Kalank (2019), where she choreographed "Tabaah Ho Gaye", picturised on Madhuri.

Khan choreographed Sridevi in the song Hawa Hawai from the 1987 blockbuster hit Mr India, kicking off her career as a dance director to be reckoned with.
