To sign-up, users must visit spotify.com/duo and follow the instructions.

Two people can split the cost by joining Premium Duo, and it would save them a few bucks had they subscribed to the music streaming service individually. As of July 1, the plan is available in the United States as well as 54 other markets.

Spotify has introduced a new subscription for couples living in the same household to share a single subscription between two accounts.

Users who haven't tried Premium before can get the first month of Premium Duo for free, but if you already have Premium you can't get the free month. It's worth noting that a Family plan membership is only $2 more than Duo and supports up to six accounts. If you share the cost with your listening buddy, you're looking at less than $7 /£7 / AU$8 per month to get ad-free Spotify and on-demand listening to tracks in any order you want. Spotify's family plan which includes up to six accounts under one roof is now $14.99 per month.

In the U.S., Premium Duo is priced at $12.99 a month.

Alex Norström, who is Spotify's "Chief Freemium Business Officer" said in a statement that the streaming giant was proud to launch Spotify Premium Duo.

Premium Duo comes with an exclusive playlist called "Duo Mix", which Spotify regularly updates based on music that each user on the plan listens to and likes. Of course, just as is the case with the family account, Spotify actually does nothing to verify if the two accounts are really in one location as long as you fill in the same address for both.

Spotify says it also creates a special Duo Mix playlist for participating members of a Premium Duo tier that will comprise songs both listeners like.
