Twitch suspends Donald Trump's account for hateful conduct

Reddit moved to ban its r/The_Donald and r/ChapoTrapHouse subreddits on Monday in an effort to more explicitly curb hate speech on its platform.

Twitch, the live-streaming service owned by Amazon, said Monday it issued a temporary suspension of President Trump's channel "for comments made on stream", but that "the offending content has been removed", according to a spokesperson.

Trump's account is generally used for online broadcasts of rallies and other events, not Trump's nascent career as a racist Valorant player.

A rebroadcast of Trump's 2015 campaign launch - when he famously criticized people crossing the Mexican border to illegally enter the United States - and comments Trump made at his recent Tulsa rally were flagged by Twitch.

The labels and fact-checks, meanwhile, prompted Trump to call for Congress to rescind the legal protections that social networks receive as internet platforms.

The spokesperson also said that Twitch issued a statement to the President's team when the channel went live previous year, warning that content violations would not be tolerated.

Speaking to LADbible, Tim Murtaugh, Director of Communications for the Trump campaign, said: "To hear directly from the President, people should download the Trump app and text "Trump" to 88022". After many warnings that the racist and generally awful content on the forum violated Reddit's rules, the subreddit has been permanently shut down. At one point, the group had almost 800,000 active users.

Reddit has banned roughly 2,000 more communities for similar reasons, including socialist podcasters Chapo Trap House.

Reddit clarified that it allows views across the political spectrum on Reddit, but said "all communities must work within our policies and do so in good faith, without exception". "The_Donald" has been in violation of that", Reddit's CEO Steve Huffman said in a statement to reporters.

The site's new content policy said communities and users that promoted hate based on identity or vulnerability would be banned.

Reddit's banning of r/The_Donald came amid a larger push by the company to sharpen and enforce its rules against hate speech and harassment.

With Donald Trump's tendency to explode at curtailing of his more extreme lies and vitriol, it will remain to be seen if he takes the suspension and content removal with grace.

At the time, Mr Huffman said Reddit would strengthen its content policy.
