Legendary rapper and producer Dr Dre is reportedly at risk of losing huge sums of money after wife Nicole Young files for divorce. She cited irreconcilable differences for the split, which comes after 24 years of marriage.

Dr. Dre and Nicole Plotzker first Wednesday in 1996, when the ultra-successful rapper and producer was already a household name.

Young filed divorce papers from the Compton-bred icon in Los Angeles Superior Court on Monday, The Times has confirmed.

Dre got married to Nicole on May 25, 1996, and they have 2 adult children together.

The news outlet also reported that the duo do not have a prenup - a written contract entered into by a couple prior to marriage detailing what happens when the union eventually ends by death or divorce.

Nicole, on the other hand, was previously married to Sedale Threatt, a retired National Basketball Association (NBA) player.

Dr. Dre also has four children from previous relationships: daughters Tyra Young and La Tanya Danielle Young as well as sons Marcel and Curtis.

The pair was last seen publicly at the Tom Ford fashion show back in February with their daughter Truly looking svelte in all black and their usual composed best.

In 2014, the music company that Dre established, Beats, was sold to Apple for $3b, which lead to him being hailed as the "first billionaire in hip-hop", though Forbes recently pegged his wealth at $800 million.
