According to the site moderators, the two biggest violators of these rules are r/The_Donald, a forum for far-right users including supporters of U.S. President Donald Trump, and r/ChapoTrapHouse.

Reddit also said it was banning about 2,000 subreddits, the majority of which were inactive. Reddit CEO Steve Huffman said in a statement the subreddit repeatedly violated the site's content policies and will be purged along with other channels that have amplified violent, hateful or harassing content. One was of Trump's June rally in Tulsa.

Trump has complained that Silicon Valley platforms are biased against conservatives, despite his own large social media following.

Reddit clarified that it allows views across the political spectrum on Reddit, but said "all communities must work within our policies and do so in good faith, without exception".

Twitch, the gaming platform owned by Amazon, said Trump's channel was suspended over rules violations and that the offending content was removed.

"I have to admit that I've struggled with balancing my values as an American, and around free speech and free expression, with my values and the company's values around common human decency", Huffman said in a call with reporters, per The Verge.

"We are committed to working with you to combat the bad actors, abusive behaviors, and toxic communities that undermine our mission and get in the way of the creativity, discussions, and communities that bring us all to Reddit in the first place", the site said in a message to users.
