In addition to Jennifer, the highly anticipated film also stars Forest Whitaker as Aretha's father, Marlon Wayans as Aretha's first husband Ted White, Mary J. Blige as singer Dinah Washington, and Gilbert Glenn Brown as Martin Luther King Jr.

The film isn't out until Christmas Day but this new teaser gives us a taste.

You probably noticed that this is a surprisingly short debut trailer, clocking in at a little over a minute long, but one could argue that it's pretty ideal.

The first trailer for Respect, the Aretha Franklin biopic starring Oscar victor Jennifer Hudson as the Queen of Soul, has been released ahead of the film reaching cinemas next year.

The Oscar-winning actress sang a rendition of "Young, Gifted and Black" during the amazingly curated BET Awards ceremony of virtual presentations and creative musical performances adhering to social distancing rules. She received 18 Grammy Awards and was nominated a total of 44 times during her prolific career. The limited series is now set to premiere sometime this fall.

The film was originally scheduled to release in August, but was pushed back due to the coronavirus pandemic.
