Ford Picks OJ Simpson's Birthday for New Bronco Release

In an Instagram post from June 13, Ford confirmed the Bronco's return on July 9.

The rebooted Ford Bronco will finally be busting out of the chute on July 9. Simpson's chase in the infamous white Bronco was broadcast live on pretty much every major television network, forever connecting the disgraced football star and the short-wheelbase SUV.

Simpson was a passenger in the 1993 Bronco while his friend and former teammate Al Cowlings drove the I-405 in Southern California.

With some 95 million people watching the chase, the white Bronco became forever linked to Simpson, who eventually surrendered to police and began an 11-month trial. "They'll change the date".

The representative told the Detroit Free Press it is quote "Purely coincidental" that it coincides with Simpson's birthday.

But Ford says the timing was "purely coincidental".

Despite that, Ford is pressing on with their July 9 reveal date. The Ford Bronco is so completely woven into the cultural fabric of America, stumbling upon points of "relevance" happen accidentally.

The Bronco, which will be assembled at Ford's Michigan Assembly Plant in Wayne, will go on sale next year.

Ford has kept most details about its Jeep Wrangler competitor secret, but it will be offered in two-door and four-door models with removable roofs and feature an independent front suspension.

Simpson made headlines in 1994 when he led police on a slow-speed chase in a Ford Bronco, following the deaths of his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend, Ron Goldman.
